Discord, in an effort to placate the ever puritanical Apple will be blocking all iOS users from 18+ servers. In fairness the only people I know who think Apple is hot shit are either under 18 or over 40, and frankly nobody over 40 is interested in seeing pikachu getting gangbanged by charizard.

The new additions include marking entire servers nsfw rather than just individual channels. It’ll block minors from seeing them which is great, even if they’re already a part of the server. This should have been in from day one. I once had a kid join my server and announce he was under 18 and whether he should leave. Yeah, leave get the fuck out you little shit. I’m banning you for the rest of forever.

Reflecting on all this now. Did anyone here remember setting their age when they signed up for Discord?

The new rules which are going into effect do make admissions for mods who will still be able to do their jobs via iOS. And I’m pretty sure you could still access nsfw stuff via browser on your phone but hooooo boy, you gotta be pretty weird to do that.6

You could try not marking your server nsfw but good luck with that. Mines already been auto flagged but that could be because I’ve already marked individual channels as nsfw

This change sort of comes out of the blue though. Discord is currently considering selling itself off for the tune of $10 billion dollars to Microsoft, so possibly they’re trying to make themselves seem like a safer option in the lead-up.

Gizmodo hit up Discord and got a fairly vanilla response “We are committed to ensuring a safer experience for everyone on Discord. We always work hard to create robust controls to help ensure minors are not exposed to content that is inappropriate for them. Our Community Guidelines require that adult content is placed behind an 18+ age gate. As part of this, we are now requiring that servers organised around NSFW content or whose content is predominantly 18+ be classified as NSFW at the community level.”

And you know what, fair enough for most of that. But sucks to be an iOS slave. Can you guys see reddit just fine? iOS rules allow incidental NSFW if it’s hidden by default, so this blanket approach seems a bit much.

Frankly boys, I’m feeling pretty marginalized right now. Can’t we show a little of Finn the humans ankle as he gets rim jobbed by jake the dog without some prudish dead guy in a turtle neck coming along and banning the whole thing. Love is love.

So will the android app store follow along like the little bitch it is? I don’t know it’s a wait and see thing at this time. If it does we can kiss goodbye to discord the same way we did tumblr. Although maybe not quite as extreme. The only thing tumblr had going for it was porn, while discord has good times with friends. Platonically of course.

All of this is a big reminder that as a nsfw creator, your place on the internet is never assured, you’ll always be hunted like the dog you are. I recommend getting your own domain pronto and maybe I dunno, start a mailing list?
